The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has been applied from 25 May 2018.

The Data Protection Regulation is directly applicable legislation that the council follows in all its operations. As a result of the reform, the rules regarding the processing of personal data have become more detailed and consistent across EU member states.
The appropriate processing of personal data strengthens the rights of registered persons and increases openness and transparency.

Key points in the data protection regulation include, for example

  • an emphasis on the legality of personal data processing
  • minimisation of collected personal data, and accuracy of data
  • increase in the transparency of information.

The City also holds overall responsibility for the processing of the personal data of its partners.

The City of Uusikaupunki is responsible for all the personal data included in its registry. The City is responsible for ensuring that data protection has been implemented in a way that takes into account all the appropriate technical and organisational measures needed to protect personal data. In matters related to the processing of personal data and data protection, please contact the City's data protection officers.

Data protection officers will also provide information and advice to registrars, personal data processors and data subjects regarding their rights and obligations under data protection legislation.

Data protection officers monitor and make sure that valid data protection legislation, the instructions and regulations of the national supervisory authority and the registrar's own instructions are being followed.
