Summer Swimming Schools

The city’s summer swimming schools will be held in June during weeks 23 and 24 at the Wintteri swimming hall.
The fee for the swimming school is €32, and lessons take place Mon–Tue and Thu–Fri (four days).

Group schedules

Week 23 (June 1st–5th)

  • Advanced group: 12:45–14:00
  • Beginner group 1: 16:15–17:30
  • Beginner group 2: 17:45–19:00

Week 24 (June 8th–12th)

  • Advanced group: 12:45–14:00
  • Beginner group 1: 16:15–17:30
  • Beginner group 2: 17:45–19:00

Group descriptions

Beginner group:
The beginner group is for non-swimmers, and no prior swimming skills are required. Instruction mainly takes place in the teaching pool. Participants get familiar with the water and learn basic swimming skills (submerging the face, diving, floating, gliding, basic swimming movements) through games and exercises.
The goal is to achieve a 10 m swimming ability.
10 participants per group.

Advanced group:
This group is intended for children who can already swim 25 meters continuously. Instruction takes place in both the teaching and lap pools. Swimmers practice techniques and complete various swimming badges according to their skill level.
10 participants per group.

Registration

  • Registration for the swimming school is done via Vello.
  • Registration opens Monday, May 18 at 13:00 (1:00 PM).
  • By registering, you commit to attending all 4 lessons.
  • The minimum age for all groups is 5 years (before the course starts).

Swimming school guidelines

  • Payment is made on the first day at the Wintteri café cashier, so please arrive early.
  • The swimming instructor will collect the children from the lobby at the start of the lesson and bring them back there afterward (e.g., for a 17:45 session, children are returned at 19:00). Parents must be present to pick them up.
  • The instructor accompanies children to the women’s changing room. Boys over 7 may go to the men’s side with guardian permission (this is asked in the Vello registration form).
  • The lesson lasts 1 hour 15 minutes, of which about 45 minutes is pool time. About 15 minutes is reserved for changing before and after.

What to bring

  • Swimsuit
  • Towel
  • Sauna seat cover
  • Optional: own swimming goggles (loan goggles are available)
  • If the swimmer cannot get their hair wet, they must bring a swimming cap

Additional notes

  • Please notify by email if your child is absent or sick.
  • After securing a place, cancel any other swimming school or waiting list spots.
  • If your child cannot attend, inform as soon as possible so the spot can be given to someone else.
  • If the swimmer has a swimming record book from previous courses, bring it for the instructor to fill in.
  • On the last day, there is an opportunity to purchase swimming badges for the book (€3 each).
