Library's principles on offering a safer space

Uusikaupunki library follows the common Welfare and Leisure committee principles on safer spaces. All of us, patrons and staff, have the responsibility to ensure that everyone is safe to exist in the library.

We respect one another

We don't intentionally insult one another with our actions or words. We respect everyone's right to not be botheres mentally or physically. We listen to one another and are present. If our actions or speech insults someone, we apologize.

We let everyone be themselves

We avoid making preconceived notions of others based on their sex, age, looks or background. We understand that we all have different viewpoints, meet everyone with respect and don't accept discriminatory behavior. We treat everyone equally.

We look after one another

We react to misdeeds, like discrimination and inappropriate behavior. We will share the negatives we notice with others and support one another.

We ensure a comfortable space

In a library, we are all using a common space. This space is open to everyone, and together we ensure the spaces are neat and comfortable.

We understand that the reading experience is unique to everyone

We avoid making preconceived notions about the library material based on the author's nationality, age, or matters such as the book's appearance.

Please let the staff know if these principles have been broken. You can leave feedback on the Uusikaupunki website at https://uusikaupunki.fi/en/give-feedback. In an emergency, call the emergency number 112.
