Sointi Jazz Orchestra

Sointi Jazz Orchestra is an innovative 17-member ensemble that, over its 10-year history, has become accustomed to presenting new, tailored works. The unique sound of the ensemble arises from its unconventional instrumentation, which utilizes a variety of instruments. The orchestra specializes in performing mostly new music composed in the 21st century and has collaborated with several distinctive international and domestic guest soloists.

In September, the Sointi Jazz Orchestra will be joined by British pianist-composer Ivo Neame! The concert will feature Neame's compositions for jazz orchestra, written in 2023 during his residency with the German Cologne Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, as well as pieces from his own 12-member ensemble's album "Glimpses of Truth" (2021). The versions heard in the concert have been arranged for the Sointi Jazz Orchestra.

The compositions in the concert are characterized by rhythmic richness and harmonic sophistication. They reflect influences from various styles such as South Indian classical music, West African music, as well as new European jazz and classical music. Neame draws inspiration from the texts of authors Roger McGough and Douglas Adams.

The concert is organized as a joint production by the City of Uusikaupunki, the City of Laitila, and the Vakka-Finland Music College.
