The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) gave a recommendation for the use of face masks on 13 August 2020.
THL recommends wearing a mask when
• you are in public transport where it is difficult to avoid close contact with others
• you are on your way to take a coronavirus test or are waiting for the test results and have an urgent reason to spend time outside your home
• you are returning to Finland from a risk area and are travelling from the place of arrival, such as an airport, to quarantine and also if you have an urgent reason to spend time outside your home during quarantine.
You can also wear a face mask in other situations if maintaining a safe distance to others is not possible.
Inhabitants with limited financial means can receive face masks free of charge from their municipality. This means that, in general, inhabitants are responsible for purchasing their own face masks.
The City of Uusikaupunki will organise the distribution of face masks to inhabitants with limited financial means at activation centre Puusti, which is located at Liljalaaksonkatu 10. Face masks can be picked up on Mon-Wed between 10 am and noon.
The masks distributed will primarily be cloth masks. For those who are unable to wash cloth masks, there will also be some single-use masks available. Other alternative channels for distributing masks will be investigated later on. These could include different organisations and parishes. The City of Uusikaupunki will provide further information if the pick-up location changes.
