Life and living in Uusikaupunki

Uusikaupunki is a small city by the sea on the south-west coast of Finland, near the cities of Turku (70 km) and Rauma (50 km). The population of the city is approximately 15,500. Despite its name (literally, ‘Uusikaupunki’ means ‘New City’), the city was founded in 1617.

The cosy and idyllic city centre is surrounded by different types of neighborhoods, and the countryside isn’t far away from the centre, either. The long coastline provides opportunities to live by the sea, too.

Easy to enjoy

The lifestyle in the small city is leisurely but invitingly active. The city is built as a functional whole around the grid-planned centre. Most of the services and facilities for activities are located within a fifteen minute walk.

Vibrant cultural life and varied leisure activities

For cultural enjoyment, Uusikaupunki offers a popular amateur theatre, several galleries, a legendary cinema with modern technology, numerous music events, a library, a music institute and the multidisciplinary Vakka-Suomen Adult Education Centre. Activities within a three kilometer radius from the city centre include a kilometre-long ski tunnel, a riding school certified by The Equestrian Federation of Finland, several gyms, jogging trails, an 18-hole golf course, public swimming pool, and much more.

Early childhood education and schools

For families with children, the city of Uusikaupunki offers multifaceted early childhood education services of high quality, also taking into account the needs of those working in shifts. There are also private day-care centres and group family day care services available in the city.

In addition to basic education, you can study at the Uusikaupunki high school and the Southwest Finland Vocational College Novida.
